A Dog never forgets.

During the war, my father used to up end the sofa during the air raids and the children, myself included, used to live under the table sheltered by the sofa. The collie dog we had, used to join us and watched us intently as we collected all the cushions for our comfort.
Eventually, the dog would collect the cushions as well and join in hiding under the table.
After the war, when the fire engine sounded, she would still collect all of the cushions under the table.

How I won a model of a Spitfire

During the early part of the war, Sheffield area held a competition to collect Saving Certificates to help to buy a “Sheffield” Spitfire for the RAF. The winner would receive a model of a Spitfire as a prize.
On the last day of the competition, my aunt Minnie came around to see me. She gave me £100 to go and buy some certificates and of course, I won the competition.
