I was a schoolboy in short trousers; I remember the war and early post war years. We often went hungry, so I changed from keeping one pet rabbit to breeding rabbits, the intention being to kill them for food. On a limited scale, I helped out neighbours and on one occasion, even sold some to a local butcher. I killed, gutted and skinned them myself. New clothes were a rarity. It was usually hand-me-downs or second hand.
